"Rockford can only be described as an icon, no matter how overused that word may be."  James Halliday

Rockford is one of the Barossa's legends. As the government introduced the vine-pull schemes during 1970s and 1980s, Rockford is one of the wineries that helped support farmers by buying their grapes. Without their help, many old vines would be grubbed up.
Today, Rockford has still committed to keeping the best of the traditional Australian wine trade alive. A wide range of wines still being produced, the benchmark Basket Press is made from specially selected small parcels of established Barossa Shiraz from some of the Barossa’s finest grape growing families with vine age from 60 to 135 years. The vineyards are situated in different sub-regions throughout the Barossa, which adds to the complexity and depth of the final blend.

Tasting Notes:
(Vinous' rating: 95 points)
Opaque violet. Intense, perfumed kirsch, blackberry, violet, incense and baking spice scents, along with savory hints of olive paste and botanical herbs. Shows impressive depth as well as energy to the appealingly sweet red and dark fruit preserve, fig paste and licorice flavors. Hefty but shows unlikely finesse as well, finishing impressively long and smoky, with the floral and spice notes repeating. Raised in used French and American oak hogsheads.
