Bergerie de l’Hortus Red is the second label of Domaine de l’Hortus, crafted from Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache grown in the estate’s younger vineyards. This wonderful blend of classic grape varieties reflects their unique personality while offering, compared to the flagship Grande Cuvée, a fresher and more approachable style.
The vines thrive at the foothills on limestone-rich soils, where their sensitivity to drought calls for meticulous care in the cellar. With a gentler maceration and shorter aging, the wine emerges with a vibrant, fruit‑driven character and a graceful expression of the estate’s terroir.

Land parcels low in foothills. Brown soil formed from limestone scree dating from the Cretaceous period. Hill slopes varying from 10 to 30% at altitudes from 150 – 200 metres.
Grape Varieties:

Yields:
30 to 45 hl/ha for land parcels with a density of between 4,000 to 7,150 plants per hectare.
Vinification:
Harvested grapes are de-stemmed and crushed. 10-30 days in vats depending on the grapes and their maturity.
Maturing:
In vats for 12 months for Grenache and Syrah grapes. The Mourvèdre is matured in 2-wine oak casks.

Strong ruby, purple reflections, broader bright rim. Delicate fresh plum fruit, a hint of tobacco and candied orange zest, dark berry fruit underneath. Medium complexity, fine fruit expression, discreet tannins, some nougat, lasts well, already drinking well.
