Château Carbonnieux, located in Bordeaux’s Pessac‑Léognan, is one of the region’s most historic estates, with origins dating back to the 13th century. In the 18th century it was managed by the Benedictine monks of Sainte‑Croix Abbey, and since 1956 has been under the stewardship of the Perrin Family.

In the Grand Cru Classé de Graves classifications of 1953 and 1959, Carbonnieux distinguished itself as one of the few estates to be recognized for both its red and white wines. The vineyards lie on Garonne gravel outcrops with clay and limestone subsoils, offering excellent drainage. This terroir gives rise to the hallmark elegance and long‑lived character of the Graves appellation.

Tasting Notes:

(James Suckling's rating: 92 points)
Vibrant fruits of plums and morello cherries with a touch of iodine, spices and mineral. Crunchy and medium-bodied on the palate with plenty of fresh, fine-grained tannins. Not a wine of excellent depth but the freshness and approachability are applaudable. Drink now through to 2030.
